Pengo 2-28-84

This is a later version of Pengo that still has several differences from the final.  The nicer title screen from the earlier version has been removed at this point, but the earlier graphics for Pengo are still there.  Some new features have been added to this version such as the different colored ice blocks, two player mode, and level select.  The difficulty has also been adjusted so the Sno-bees are much slower than they were in the previous prototype.  This version also keeps the older stage layouts.

Prototype Differences

Upon starting the game, Pengo's graphics on the title screen appears to have glitchy movement.  This is because the initialization code misses a CLD command which clears the decimal flag.  So all addition and subtraction operations are assuming BCD numbers (Binary Coded Decimal) and leads to wrong results.

The copyright still says 1983
The copyright text is in a different font
The graphics for Pengo are different, especially his face which appears to be nothing more than a beak!
Pengo’s death animation is different
You start with 5 lives
The Color/B&W switch controls music instead of the left difficulty switch - Color=ON, B&W=OFF
Pengo is slower
The level layouts are different
There are only four different ice patterns, after which they start repeating
The background music doesn't mute when other tunes/sounds are played
Pushing an ice block at the start of the game will cut off the opening tune
Some sounds are missing such as breaking an ice block and squishing a Sno-bee
The sound for pushing the walls is higher pitched than the 1-4-84 prototype and different from the final version
