Going-Up?? was not
mentioned in any Starpath catalog |
Going-Up?? (note the dash and two question marks), is a
previously unknown game by Starpath. The first prototype was
discovered 2004 in the possession of former Atari employee Bob
Brown. A second prototype was discovered in 2023 was
determined to contain the exact same code as the 2004
prototype. Both prototypes contain only a basic movement
demo with a snazzy looking background.

As this prototype is very incomplete, we can only
begin to guess at what the gameplay may have been like. You
control a little green alien whom you can move around the screen,
and that's about it. There doesn't appear to be any
collision detection with the stair or platforms as you can walk
wherever you feel like on the screen. It is surmised that in
the final game you would need to walk up the stairs and jump on
the various platforms. The fact that all the stairs and
platforms are different colors may indicate something (like a
simple color matching game), but without any further gameplay
implemented we have no way of knowing for sure.

Going-Up?? was never mentioned in any Starpath
catalog, so it may have been an in-house pet project of one of the
programmers. The graphics are top notch, and had the game
been completed it would have fit in nicely with Starpath's other
2600 offerings. Hopefully another more complete copy of
Going-Up?? will surface someday, but for now we are left to wonder
what could have been.
