Donkey Kong 6-8-88

This is a late WIP of Donkey Kong that was found on a hard drive.  While the graphics are almost exactly the same, the gameplay and music are still being worked on.  The music is much slower and, if it can be believed, far worse than the final version.  The movement of all the objects in this version is also very choppy making some levels (such as the elevators) much more difficult than they should be.  There's also a strange white object on the left hand side of the first level which is also seen in other prototypes being developed by ITDC which doesn't appear to do anything.  This might be some sort of trademark from the developer.

Differences
The music on the title screen is different much Much slower.
The demo only shows the first screen but lasts a few seconds longer.  The demos for the second and third screen are missing.  The demo is also slightly different.
The title screen option selections are laid out differently.  Instead of selecting the difficulty and number of players by highlighting it with the cursor there are four options that are selected by moving the icon next to it.  These options are laid out similarly to the NES version with choices for One/Two Players and Game A/B.  Game A seems to be similar to Standard difficulty while B seems to be either Advanced or Expert difficulty.
The font for the HUD is different.  The letters are larger as well
There is an odd object to the left of the oil barrel on the first screen.  This object also appears in prototypes for other games that ITDC developed such as Mario Bros. and Donkey Kong Junior.  Although it can be touched in the other games (but does nothing), it cannot be collected here due to the oil barrel killing Mario on contact.  This might be some sort of developer trademark.
The graphics tend to glitch now and then.  This is usually caused by too many graphics being on one line.  This can be seen most often in Mario's graphics on the girders screen and the elevator platforms on the springs screen.
During the demo the number of men shown in reserve is 0 instead of 1
The blue of the Donkey Kong text on the title screen is darker
The copyrights on the title screen are different
The level start tune is different (and slower)
Donkey Kong is a slightly lighter shade of brown
The movement for the graphics isn't as smooth and is a bit choppier.  This is most noticeable in the barrels, springs, and Mario.  This makes precision jumping more difficult.
Most sound effects are different and higher pitched
The oil barrel on the girders screen kills Mario on touch instead of only the flames being deadly
The music for completing each level is different
Climbing the ladders seems a bit more difficult.  You have to be lined up almost perfectly for it to work.
Jumping while moving seems to be more difficult
Some of the single girder platforms on the elevators screen have triangles that face up instead of down
The platform with the ladder on the far right side of the elevators screen is closer to the single girder platform
Donkey Kong's graphic for when he hits the girder pile in the ending is different
The AI for the Firefoxes isn't as good.  This is most noticeable on the Rivets level where they don't seem to chase Mario and mostly congregate on the bottom of the screen.

Very different title screen

What IS that white thing?

That platform is much closer
